Summer Spark 2016 Recap
Summer Spark 2016 eclipsed our opening symposium in every conceivable way. Beginning with keynote George Couros and his inspiring presentation on "The Innovators Mindset" to the ending raffle of fabulous prizes, attendees learned, connected, created, and laughed for two fantastic days in June. Keynote Don Wettrick pushed Sparkers to make innovation more than just a discussion in their schools; Quinn Rollins and Michael Matera both espoused the benefits of play in the classroom; Julie Miller opened up attendee's eyes to the importance of digital literacy and social media; Matt Miller provided innumerable technology integration ideas; and Jason Bretzmann encouraged everyone to strive for personalized professional development. Over 60 breakout sessions featured current practitioners from all over the United States, with 15 tracks for focused professional development. We added 90 minute workships in 2016 to increase interaction, and the popular "unconference" provided for additional sharing and connecting. Sparkers left the sold out two-day event with inspiration in the world of education, excitement to try new ideas, and an explosion in their professional learning network.
