Innovative Elementary - The Reggio Approach
Presenters: Muffie Browne, Sue Jefferes, Jen Keppler
You won't need a passport to get a glimpse of the renowned preschools of Italy. Be inspired by project-based learning at its very best as we share some examples from our recent school visits in Reggio Emilia. We will explore the basic principles of this Early Childhood philosophy in which the curriculum emerges from the interests of the children, and the teachers act as co-researchers by providing a framework for children to explore, problem solve, and weave skills and outcomes into project work. We will give examples of projects that utilize collaboration among students as well as ways to set up the classroom environment to make early childhood experiences purposeful, creative, and authentic. Let's collaborate to adapt this approach in your own classroom and enhance the learning process for you and your students.
